is part of our Cooperative specializing in carefully crafted custom handwoven products.
All our Wool, Llama, Alpaca, Vicuna, Cotton, silk and Bamboo fibers are hand spun, hand-dyed, then woven and finished by SJC's Hand weaving team of artisans on Lake Atitlan.
Each of our beautiful and durable products exactly fulfills the client’s design objectives for a given purpose.
This beautifully hand woven collection is made from a blend of Vicuna and raw silk.
Due to the exclusive nature of this product, we only create on order.
Vicuna is the finest animal fiber in the world. Luxurious Vicuna is extremely light, amazingly soft, and provides unrivaled warmth. These articles come in a wooden box and including a hand-numbered and signed card guaranteeing the fiber came from government controlled shearing operations. Vicunas may only be sheared every two years and produce a small amount of fiber, increasing the rarity of this beautiful product. In Inca times, only royalty could wear such amazing fiber.
Limited quantities of the fiber is available each year adding to the mystique of this amazing animal.

The ordering process begins with a conversation between SJC Handwoven and the interior designer regarding a client’s intentions for a space.
Clients who wish to stop by the studio here on Lake Atitlan, are invited to peruse existing samples to find inspiration in the variety of textures, weights, and color combinations made possible by our custom design process. Alternatively we can send a representative to you to discuss and work directly with your design team. At this stage, the designer often provides fabric swatches to serve as a color reference to inform the weaving process.
Once the client has chosen a pattern, SJC artisans weave a custom “strike-off.” At approximately 1 foot wide, the strike-off is a full-scale sample of the finished product, usually showing several potential colorways. The strike-off allows the client to feel the weight of the fabric and approve the colors and design before the rug moves to production.
Following approval of the strike-off, SJC artisans prepare and dye the yarn by hand. Mild variations of color add to the richness and depth of the finished piece. The resulting rugs do not merely match the color swatches provided, but bring the room together, creating cohesion and harmony in the living space.
Most SJC designs can be further customized through the use of a variety of natural fibers. Clients can add texture and alter the visual effect of their rug or fabric by choosing from wool, linen, silk or cotton yarns.
SJC Handwoven can weave a rug of any size and shape to fit large, small, or irregular spaces. Ideal for yachts and staircases.
Using up to 10′ wide countermarche looms, SJC Handwoven produces single-panel rugs up to 9’6″ wide. Larger rugs are pieced together from multiple panels to achieve the desired size. Clients are encouraged to submit floor-plans for complex shapes.
SJC offers a full service for Homes, Yachts, Offices and Commercial Spaces. We template, pattern, fabricate and install the rugs and fitted carpets drapes and wall treatments where ever you might need them.
All orders require a 50% deposit and client’s approval of the strike-off before they can proceed to production. From this point, you can expect 10-12 weeks lead time for delivery of your custom rug or fabric.
